There is a lingering myth that children are colorblind and have no racial preferences or observations. Research shows that children can categorize race and gender even in infancy, and that even toddlers and preschoolers have the capacity to express biases and stereotypes. But where and how do we, as educators and caregivers, begin to call attention to these topics and behaviors?
Navigating conversations about race with young children can be challenging, but is a necessary part of social justice and progress towards a better world for our future generations.
Join us as we partner with United Way to host a thought-provoking, engaging conversation around young children and race. You will hear from panel members, each with unique backgrounds and experiences, as they answer questions and provide insight on how to engage with kids about challenging topics.
Following the panel presentation, there will be an opportunity to break out into discussion groups surrounding real-life scenarios. You will leave with the tools to feel more prepared to facilitate these kinds of conversations with the children in your lives.
