Reading with young children supports their imagination and early literacy skills. It also instills a love of reading early on, leading to school success. Buncombe Partnership for Children is collaborating with The Literacy Council of Buncombe County to offer Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library.
WHAT IS DOLLY PARTON’S IMAGINATION IN LIBRARY (DPIL)?
DPIL provides a free, hardcover book monthly to children living in Buncombe County ages birth up to five years old. Participating children receive an age appropriate book each month, mailed directly to the child from the time of registration until age 5. Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library supports preparing children for kindergarten by exposing children to the concepts of print, encouraging child/parent reading, and increasing early literacy skills.

HOW MANY CHILDREN DOES THE IMAGINATION LIBRARY REACH?
In November 2015, 200 children were enrolled in the Imagination Library. Today, over 3,100 children are a part of the program, thanks in large part to community support. Just $25 provides one whole year of free books to a child, and we are excited to grow the program.
But we need your help!
BPFC and The Literacy Council aim to increase enrollment to 4,500 children by December 2020. Contact Carol Ann Willhite, Fund Development Director, to find out how you can make that happen! Carol Ann can be reached at 828.484.2363 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
HOW CAN I REGISTER?
As long as your child lives in Buncombe County as is between birth and five years old, they are eligible!
