Children love to tell stories. They make up stories as they play, they greet you every morning with, “Teacher, guess what?”, and they make friends and connect with their classmates through stories and interests. What can you do with these entertaining stories and how do they become learning opportunities and a part of your daily curriculum? Join us as we combine play, children’s stories, and literacy strategies to give preschool teachers and directors a no cost resource that will change the classroom community into richer emerging literacy practices and joy as each day a child is “author” dictating a story with a teacher. Watch how children take images in their mind, tell them to a teacher, and then bring them to life on the masking taped stage during circle time. The story is acted out in front of peers, providing a rich, complete literacy learning experience along with the joy of sharing the author’s thoughts with their peers.
Learn how storytelling story acting will engage your imagination and curiosity each day for you and the children as you wait to see what the story will be, who will get to act, and what questions will be asked of the author. Children speak, listen, and participate in creating a unique literacy community when practiced consistently every day and their social skills and language skills are sharpened. Learn more about what your children are thinking and turn these ideas into effective educational practice for all children in their social and literacy development.
