Many caregivers have questions about how to get their children ready for kindergarten. While there are many different opinions and viewpoints about what makes a child “kindergarten ready,” remember that every child is different. Kindergarten teachers are used to welcoming children of all backgrounds and levels of readiness into their classroom every year.
Your child may also have questions about starting kindergarten. To help your child get ready for making the transition there are a few things you can do before the first day:

If your child will be 5 by August 31, 2021, you may enroll him/her in kindergarten! Here are some of the choices that are available to you and your family:
Public – Families may apply to a variety of free public schools depending on where they live. To find out what school district you are in visit: https://gis.buncombecounty.org/schools/
Charter– Free public schools with an independent curriculum. Available to children living in the state of North Carolina. Enrollment is usually based on a lottery of all applicants.
