Buncombe Partnership for Children launches One-Year Shape Collaborative
Apply by July 22, Responses will be sent out by July 26th . This application should take 5-7 min.
Shape NC is an initiative to prevent early childhood obesity by promoting healthy eating, physical activity, breastfeeding, farm to preschool, and access to improved outdoor play spaces for children ages birth to five in 4 & 5 star centers.
Shape NC helps communities and child care centers develop environments and policies that encourage young children to be healthy. Five major programs are used to support the implementation of Shape NC: Be Active Kids, Go NAP SACC (Nutrition and Physical Activity Self-Assessment for Child Care), the Natural Learning Initiative, Farm to Preschool, and Carolina Global Breastfeeding Institute. Shape NC provides technical assistance, coaching, and training for child care centers in Buncombe County.
This collaborative will start off at Verner Child Development Center East which is our Demonstration Site for all areas of Shape. Directors/teams will receive a Rainbow in My Tummy meal, tour the Outdoor Learning Environment and Veg, discuss the collaborative, get inspired by others successes, and set goals for the coming year. The collaborative will meet three times over the year to plan next steps, hold design sessions, receive training, and tour new child care centers or centers that volunteer to “show off” their completed projects. The grand finale will be a tour of Buncombe child care centers by the community/press/etc June 2020.
The collaborative will be framed around all five areas of Shape.
